How much is too much?
When I write I want the writer to see exactly what I see in my head, which makes it a struggle for me to keep the description to an amount that wont completely bore the reader. For instance, I was writing about a plaque on the wall in my book and I had to stop myself from explaining that the plaque was a hard plastic square, with rounded corners, the top third of it was a faded maroon with white letters sticking out that read 'Human Agent Training', the bottom half a dull grey.
Really?! I am positive that my readers do not care about the specifics of that plastic square stuck to the wall, all they need to know is what it said. I try to keep a good pace and not get lost in the descriptions that don't add anything of value to the story. When I desperately want to go into depth on something I just know I can't, I like to make myself feel better by drawing a picture of it. Im no artist mind you, but just getting it on paper and out of my head makes the whole process that much easier.

We have a winner!
After reading many submissions I have finally picked my favorite piece of writing from the May Contest.
It is a beautiful story by Entity Sylvir (http://www.writerscafe.org/Entity-Sylvir) called "The Pianist". It will be up on the right-hand side of this blog for the month of June. Congratulations Entity Sylvir for winning the first every Write About This! blog writing contest!
Thank you to everyone who submitted, I look forward to the June contest!

Inspiration
As I sat outside this morning to do my daily devotional I noticed what a beautiful day it was. The wind blew lightly in the trees above me. The sun was filtering through a couple clouds making the morning glow with golden warmth. It is moments like this that inspire my writing. Those special moments when you notice the small details you overlooked in the past. The small details are what make a difference in any writing so I always try to take advantage of those moments.
Inspiration to write is so important, without it your work would be stagnant and readers most likely would not respond well to your writing. When you go to write, find something that inspires you and use it, take those moments when the details jump out at you and use it! When you are inspired in your writing, your love for the story will show through to the reader and they in turn will love your work.

God Given!
When I am writing, the words flow through me, through the pen and onto the paper, and I always seem to write so much better than I ever speak. That is one of the reasons I love to write. I love that I can sit down in front of a blank piece of paper and begin to write a story that had not existed just minutes previously.
God is such a giving God, and he is the only reason for any writing ability I have. I thank and praise Him for allowing me to show His grace through my pen. Thank you Jesus my Savior for stepping in for my sins and allowing me to come to God!

Poll results!
I asked you all how much you wrote, and here are the results.
%50 - When the muse strikes
%0 - Weekly
%16 - A few times a week
%33 - Daily
It seems as though the muse myth persists! After I wrote the post about how much you write I have tried harder to write everyday. I am not perfect at it but I must say that it really does help. Now I don't have any excuses when I don't want to write one day, the muse is always there, she is just waiting for me!

The place to be
Where do you do your best writing?
I ask myself this all the time, and the answer seems to change with my mood. If I had to choose a place I think my family and friends would know before I said a word, Barnes and Noble. Specifically, the Starbucks inside Barnes and Noble with a Green Tea or Chai Tea Latte on my table.
Personally, I love to people watch. I think it helps develop my characters when I see how people interact with others. It could also be my personal form of procrastination, making myself think that I can only write when surrounded by books, coffee, and people.
When I try to sit down at my house and write I get so distracted by life, that I end up leaving before a word has been written. I could easily say that my family is a distraction, which don't get me wrong, that would be an excellent excuse. But, after the family is all in bed and Im up alone, staring between my TV and my notebook which do you think I choose? Writing would be much easier to do If I just had my TV, internet, phone, and other books taken away from me! I think 'If I just forget to pay the cable bill this month maybe I can get some writing done.' Or 'Oh! the TV broke, what a shame, now I can write!'
Please tell me I am not the only one doing this to themselves. Where is your favorite place to write? Is it a procrastination tool for you as well?
